The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has clarified that Red Dye-3, also known as erythrosine (E127), is permitted in food but must comply with the General Standard for Food Additives (GSFA 2024) and Codex Stan 192-1995, revised in 2024. 

These standards, approved by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives, regulate its safe usage. 

In a statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the FDA emphasized its commitment to monitoring food products for possible adulteration to ensure consumer safety.
